If you thought Will Davison was sitting at home with his feet up taking it easy during the nine-week hiatus in the 2010 V8 Supercars Championship then think again.
While it would be easy to assume that, then Davison is the exception and is anything but static at present.
The Toll Holden Racing Team driver is determined to pack as much as he can into his time -off from the 15-round series.
Davison says his break is already planned and includes sponsorship meetings, ride days, extra training, seeing family and he’s even on planning a trip to the United States to take in some NASCAR racing.
“Yeah, it’s fair to say I’ve got a bit on at the minute, but that’s the way I like it,” Davison said today.
“I am now in Queensland doing sponsorship meetings and then it’s straight to a couple of ride days next week. Right now, I’ve stepped my training up, at this time of year also. I have to, as I prepare for the endurance races at Bathurst and Phillip Island. It’s in a way a tough time for a driver as you still have to watch everything you do and keep your diet and training up.”
“I’ve got a trip to watch some NASCAR racing planned in a couple of weeks in the US, and no I won’t be looking to stay there and drive one full time. I just love the sport, who doesn’t.”
Davison, who made his V8 Supercars debut in 2004, sits in 16th on the championship table after finishing runner-up last year, and he believes the mid-year break is essential, giving himself and the Toll HRT an opportunity to refresh and take stock of their season so far.
“I really like the break, there’s a lot of bits and pieces you can do and catch up on.
“It’s come at a time when everyone needs to get some much-needed holidays and just look at where we’re at.
“Obviously, I’d like to be further up the V8 Supercars championship table but, although I’ve had a disappointing start to the year, there’s a long way to go and as a team we’ll just focus on the next six races and see if we can get some real momentum and hopefully some wins there.”
Davison will have his chance to get his season back on track at the next round of the V8 Supercars Championship at Victoria’s Phillip Island on September 10-12 in the L&H 500.
